PRODUCTION HALL TRUMPF HETTINGEN BY BARKOW LEIBINGER

Trumpf GmbH the world largest manufacturer of high tech machine tools will be expanding their existing branch factory near the village of Hettingen in the Swabian Alb.

Situated in a picturesque valley this will be the second addition undertaken by Barkow Leibinger the first (shops and offices of 1500 sqm.) was done in 2009.

A new master plan anticipates the construction of new production and assembly in four phases.

In July 2013 the first of these phases, a new production hall with 3400 sqm, was realized after only 13 months of construction.

Organized as a simple repetitive shed construction of seven bays the production hall is bracketed by two stories of offices (to the north) and a drive-through loading bay (to the south).

For the production and assembling of oversized flatbed laser machines a column free and flexible space was required. The bays measure 24m in width and 13m at the highest point of the shed.

The steel framework of the roof construction allows north-facing skylights within the structural depth; together with the 3m high strip window at ground level they provide daylight for the working areas.

The permanent long façade facing the Lauchert Creek and valley is articulated as a gently folded origami of corrugated metal and glass to scale the factory building to the neighboring singlefamily houses with pitched roofs.

The office front is integrated into the shed volume but has a mater of fact gridded façade.

The roof as a 5th facade is planted with local vegetation to better integrate into the scenic valley.

AMTRIUM AMSTERDAM RAI BY BENTHEM CROUWEL ARCHITEKTEN

Amsterdam RAI is continuing to invest in sustainable innovation to strengthen its position as an internationally leading exhibition and conference centre.

With the design of a new building on the Scheldeplein square, a multifunctional and remarkably sustainable office and conference centre with restaurant will be added to the RAI’s premises.

The design explicitly takes into account that the latest addition to the RAI is compatible with the existing complex and has a connection to the Scheldeplein as well. By its transparent plinth façade the Amtrium creates new interaction between the RAI and the residential area that surrounds the complex.

The addition of a public, high quality, restaurant also contributes to the culinary and entertainment value of the district. The development of the compact building will include the most sustainable technologies available. By means of a climate zone with plants (greenhouse), air gets preheated with warmth of the sun while air from the congress areas is drained.

Rainwater is collected and used for irrigation of the plants. Elevators, installations and emergency stairs are all integrated in the climate zone. The atrium takes care of air disposal from the offices and is connected to the climate zone in one sustainable climate-concept.

It uses waste heating systems in combination with thermal storage and cogeneration. In the summer heat and in the winter cold, is stored and waste heat is converted into electricity. All installations are energy efficient and make maximum use of renewable sources.

For lighting, daylight is used as much as possible by the orientation of the building, the geometry of the façade, and the atrium in the heart of the office facilities. The atrium and other main vertical openings (the greenhouse and a void in the foyer) create spaciousness and grandeur, appropriate to the ambition of Amsterdam RAI.

The RAI hopes to be the first in the Netherlands to achieve the BREEAM-NL Excellent level, a hallmark for sustainability that is managed by the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC).

OFFICE PARK FOR WISON HEADQUARTERS BY AS. ARCHITECTURE

This project conveys the spirit of the Zhangjiang developing neighborhood whose motto is: “an innovative district, a charming district”.

The shape of the building is a dynamic illustration of the different entities of the Wison company.

The façades and the roof are designed in compliance with the climatic features of the region where the buildings are located, taking into account fundamental parameters such as light, orientation as well as energy consumption.

The cover, which is a large roof, corresponds to open-air meeting areas. The central volume connects the five buildings, all of which have different uses.

On the southern part, it opens on the Zhongke street with a “piazza” at the entrance. On the western side, the buildings open their doors towards the river bank and the surrounding landscape.

A large green area between the center of logistics and distribution serves as a residence and recreation area with native trees and two retention basin, which provide the natural drainage of the roof and surface water, as well as the habitat with areas ofshallow water, reed beds , reeds, alders and willows.

Entering the building through the sales center, the inviting lobby space serves as an exhibition hall, displaying hahn + kolb products alongside other art collections, that extends with a height of 7.70 m over two floors.

Independently accessible public space connects the two structures at ground and first floor levels, where a lounge area functions as a hub for the scheme, allowing colleagues and clients to hold impromptu meetings.

Shared areas of the design alternate with administrative rooms, resulting in an interplay of programs throughout the scheme. A external patio at ground floor level brings natural light into the structure and ventilates adjacent offices.

The 1,400 m2 of large roofs ensure integration visuallyand ecologically valuable dispensing of heat and air conditioning assisted witha heat pump.

The photovoltaic cells are positioned across the center’s south façade, providing sustainable energy and minimizing the development’s carbon footprint. a ground source pump covers 70% of the building’s annual heating costs, while green roofs provide further levels of insulation.
