I spiffed up the house before the ladies arrived for book club then bolted for ACAC, then Phoenix Metal Works, then Maigh's birthday tweet-up.

First, ACAC: the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and Young Blood Gallery had a little Christmas Shop with eggnog. EGGNOG. Twitter fans: @ACAC @ybgb @TerryKearns

Know Ashley Anderson? He's one of the many super-friendly bearded artists around here. I asked to see his sketchbook. Turns out he'd designed the latest ACAC mug..


Is that cool or what? You can buy one from ACAC they'd sure appreciate it.


Did you heard the good news about Young Blood Gallery and Mint Gallery?

Short version: Young Blood was going to close after 10 years. Good News: The Young Blood store will remain open under new management, Mint will move to the gallery space, Young Blood founders Kelly Teasley and Maggie White will move on to other things including popup shows. Win, win, win. @ybgb and @mintatl.

The Goat Farm is the site of Phoenix Metal Works, home of artist / metal worker Corrina Sephora Mensof.


This is my favorite Corriana picture, in profile with crown. I'm the one with chins.


You've probably seen her "Sun Moon Nautilus Passage" gate at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Above is a study for it. The word "awesome" was invented folks like Corrina.


Corrina had a Christmas ornament DIY table.


She's always working on commissions. Here is a rendering for one. This art has to fit and it has to work.


She's built some of it already - stunning.


Corrina has a thing for boats these days; sometimes boats with wings and wheels.

This is how much they love Maigh, a real Twitter tag tag.


They invented "awesome" for Maigh so we're keeping her identity secret.

Artists Terri Dilling and Mark Leibert at Sandler Hudson Gallery

My December 10 gallery hop continued at Sandler Hudson Gallery in the same building as Octane at the corner of Howell Mill and Marietta on Atlanta's Westside.


A very good crowd.


On the left is Mark Leibert, co-founder and Director of Kaikoo Media. I really liked his work on paper; one of which were are blocking in this picture.


Mark's glider provided some masculine relief; the tree an uncannily soft filigree.


I love this little orange work on paper.


Here is Terri Dilling in front of her screen-print and mixed media on panel, "Come Together" which seems to have a positive/negative thing going. I didn't notice it until I had time to stare at the photo.

When you go to Sandler Husdon Gallery, make sure to visit the roof top deck. There is a view and there might be some art. This is Terri's helix "tree" with paper flowers.


Folks were wondering what in the world I was doing with my camera shooting from the sidewalk. I was too.

Oragami by Nate Moore at Emily Amy

My last gallery hop for 2010 started with Nate Moore's reception at Emily Amy Gallery. I love how the Emily Amy Gallery space lets me see things from many perspectives.

I had no idea. When the shapes are the same, it frees the eye to see other things. You should go. Emily Amy is on the Westside, across the street from Octane and Sandler Hudson Gallery.


There is one wall of wood shapes, the rest are paper.


Nate, an occasional Atlantan, is now based in Little Rock. He paints and he does these.


Lot's of ways to put them together.


Nate told me he starts with a sheet "about normal sized." Folks said he could do the folds in about a minute.


Some flew solo. What did the original paper look like?


Each one of these deserved a close look.


There was a box full ...


... launching them toward the ceiling.


I love the pastels.


This 49 second video shows how beautiful some of the papers are. Can you see the different shade of blue in the last 3 columns?

Cecil Touchon at Kinkos?

Office supplies imitating collage!!!

I was doing my downtown Atlanta errands today and spotted this in the mezzanine of the Equitable Building.


My brain said, "What is a Cecil Touchon collage doing in Kinkos (now FedEx Office)?" Here are some of the real things from Emily Amy Gallery

Artists Helen Durant and Corrina Sephora Mensoff - Show at the Goat Farm

On the weekend October 17, 2010 Corrina and Helen threw an art show at the Goat Farm. Architecture Tourist heaven: re-purposed, mysterious 1889 cotton gin complex, artists, art, studios, friends, hospitality.

Here is Helen and Corrina's shared studio, perfect industrial eclectic with peachy trim.


Corrina Mensoff does metal work and everything else. Walk in to find art and tools galore.


Beautiful tools of the trade.


Turn right towards Helen's studio. See her big cat?


Look up to find industrial clerestory happiness. This stuff gives me tingles in tummy but it might be a bit chilly in the winter.


Corrina is doing a lot of crazy boats in metal, in paint, and in everything else.






Helen did this crazy dog. It seemed so real, so pet-able, so loved.

Looking out the front door. It is so calm and quiet here. It's industrial-pastoral.


The Goat Farm is the "E. Van Winkle Gin and Machine Works/The Murray Company" and it's on the national register of historic places. It's a good place for parties. Here is the Burnaway.org fundraiser on June 19.
