PADIDEH KISH COMPETITION BY SHIRDEL AND ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTS

The architectural masterplan design of “Padideh Kish”, a destination resort, in Kish Island is the most significant tourism hub in Iran and the fourth in Middle East. Being located at the southern part of Iran it requires a very sensible and special approach. 

The tremendous scale of the project and diversity of programmes assigned to the design makes the project beyond an architectural resolution and demands an approach similar to a city.

Thus as various group of people experience special and valuable qualities of a social life in a city environment, this project also intends to enhance this quality within this place. 

As a destination for a trip to the most attractive touristic place in Iran, “Padideh Kish” on one hand consists of a flexible and wide-spread range of social scenarios related to leisure and on the other hand special events such as commercial, sports and so on. 

Hence “Padideh Kish” by providing and creating a fantastic and exciting place improves and deepens the experience of a trip and remains in the mind of any visitor.

The architectural masterplan design idea of Padideh is a result of juxtaposition, interaction and development of concepts that each one is dependent on the architectural achievements and architectural history of Iran. 

The noble concepts which nourish and support the idea of design, could be explored from two main perspectives: Social – cultural and geographical perspectives.

POLOUR ROCK CLIMBING HALL BY NEW WAVE ARCHITECTURE

In Polour, situated in a pristine context that overlooking the highest peak of Iran – Mount Damavand – and responding the climbing potential of the region, New Wave Architecturehas designed a spirited sport facility is imprinted delicately in the rocky lands of Mazandaran.

Being inspired by the geological process of the large-scale movements of the earth‘s crust and its tectonic forces, all end up to initial clues to co-operate for drawing up Polour Rock Climbing Hall. The fragmented mass comes into a multi-facet entity, stems from the layers of nature and gradually rises, peaks and moves down soberly.

Nature and landscape visually creep into the building through the transitive atrium and triangular openings, while presenting natural daylight and providing a dynamic sport hall for climbers, from training to competition.

With approximately a total area of 4500 square meters extending along south-east to south-west, the rock climbing gym creates a tangible architectural space where aesthetics is as prominence as performance. Bouldering hall, temporary accommodation zone, fitness gyms and maintenance areas are enclosed by boulder–like walls.

The climbing walls are mounted in front of the atrium, proposing new impressions for the moving observer. Both the users inside and viewers outside interact a dynamic relationship with the climbing gym, while the exterior facets offer outdoor bouldering for climbers.

In harmony with the dominant color of the surroundings, white fiber cement panels are considered for the facets to settle down the whole building in its snowy context. Steel moment resisting frames are used as the main structural system; while tubular trusses transmit the floor loads to vertical elements due to project long spans.
