Pink houses in Druid Hills and Candler Park

This one is in the part of Druid Hills that you'd think is Virginia-Highland. Anyway, It's an old gas station on Briarcliff. The pink hides behind the wall. I think the owners of Indigo and Partners, former Morningside restaurants, converted this to a home.

Pink in Druid Hills

I'm not sure if this is the only pink house in Druid Hills.

Architecture tourists should enjoy Druid Hills for it's variety of stately homes. Quite a few are by Buck Crook and Neel Reid and others I don't know so much about yet. Unlike Buckhead, Druid Hills has smaller lots. You can see all the houses.

Some are special. Drive Fairview Road: A few blocks of great houses, many styles, close to the street for our enjoyment.

Artists: 2009 Telephone Factory Art Show Atlanta

I'm participating in Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch. Thanks to Susan! This used to be a telephone factory and it was built to last. Now it's an art, design, and coolness factory. Once a year we get a look inside. Design fans, you'll want to see the a few pictures of a French style collection in the postscript.

Fun art...

I did the Telephone Factory Art Show on Sunday. (I did the Fulton Cotton and Bag Mill tour on Saturday). Mark your calendar for next year: First weekend in December, great loft buildings, great lofts, great art, great people, great time.

Atlanta's wonderful black house and 3 pink houses

It's in Atkins Park. It's been featured on the Homes Across America TV show. It's really black and - who would have thought it - wonderful. With a red tile roof and palm tree, what more could you want?

I love Atlanta's pink houses. This one is in the Old Fourth Ward.

This renovation may not please all tastes

It's the new Inkaholics on Piedmont at Cheshire Bridge. At Inkaholics you can get a drink, a tattoo, and a haircut.

It's an old bank on a very prominent place atop a hill. You know where.

2011-11-14-1878-Piedmont-Ave-former-bank-before-3
Several banks then a few a real estate offices made a home there. The style was so familiar it rarely caught the eye. This screams "branch bank."

P1020438-2011-12-14-Inkaholiks-Columns-Former-Bank
They painted the brick blue, the trim red and marbleized the columns. It still screams something but not "branch bank."

P1020442-2011-12-14-Inkaholiks-Columns-Closer-Former-Bank-Capital-Greek-Key
Now I can see it again.

I don't think they are entirely finished or entirely open. I'll report.

Jeff's Shutters #3 - Completed

I'm participating in Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch. Thanks to Susan!

P7160657-Jeff-Shutters-Closeup

Jeff finished his shutters. See Jeff's Shutters from May 20 and Jeff's Shutters #2 from July 16. Gordon designed them. Jeff built the shutters and the hardware. Paint color was a issue. Gordon wanted "stronger colors. Others wanted less strong.

The thing that pulled it all together was painting the addition.

How about that rich red door?

Before: black, too-small louver shutters. The addition was white and didn't look very integrated with the brick part.

Here is the bluer color, I did Photoshop mock-ups for Jeff and Gordon:

I like with it no shutters. The underlying formal feeling comes out that way. The house seems bigger.
